As for the rest of the experience, it is close to the lake. They claim to have a boat ramp, which we couldn't find on the map or while driving around. The facilities on the camper side (yes, they have tents and campers separated, which was nice) were much nicer than the port-a-potties on the tent side. The cost for camping was decent, even though we got a last minute site on a busy weekend. All reasons to bump this from a one star, to a three star review.

First off, I wasn't aware that the railroads allowed people to build so close to a railway. Which, brings me to my initial point. Railroads and tent camping do not mix. I would be willing to bet, that if we had a camper, we would have enjoyed this area a lot more. However, we were awoken at 0300 by the first train of the morning, and what felt like every quarter hour thereafter (probably more like every half hour to an hour).

It was a real camping experience. By that i mean you are in the woods and right on the lake. Nothing fancy. If you are looking for a glamping experience go elsewhere. We are camping in a motorhome and we did have full hookups and a view of the lake. However there is one big drawback. There is a very loud train within a 100 ft of the campground that runs by about every hour. The last one i heard at night before i fell asleep was 11:00 pm. The next one i remember hearing was 4:22 AM. This would be really annoying for tent campers!!

Great price, nice people and nice view of lake

Nice setting with lots of trees. Great views of the inaccessible Shasta Lake. Not enough bathrooms and the one bathroom was old with very small showers. Nice to have a restaurant and bar on site. People who manage were nice and organized, it was easy to switch sites. If you have dogs the walking is fairly limited. Price is very reasonble compared to other CA RV Parks.

The staff was very friendly as well. The place was clean. There were just trains. Which, I want to point out, are one of my favorite inventions. I am just a big kid when it comes to heavy machines, and trains are some of my favorites. Unless I am sleeping. Or trying to sleep. Yeah, pretty much my favorite any other time, though...

Shasta Lake has a limited amount of tent camping spots with this many amenities and conveniences. I like this area best when the lake is full in the spring. Nice folks!
